What It Is

The intensive fast-paced, profit-over-everything nature of meat production means corners are cut at every turn. Countless investigations have found examples of contamination: meat that has been dropped on the factory floor being put back onto the processing line,³ meat that is unsuitable for consumption being sent out anyway,⁴ and even beefburgers actually being made of horse.⁵

We may have no idea of these breaches unless we get sick (or conduct our own DNA tests on our food), but sometimes there is a very clear sign that something has gone wrong. Just ask the people who found nipples on their bacon⁶ ⁷or a whole chicken’s head inside a box of chicken wings.⁸ ⁹ One man found a chicken’s kidney inside his KFC meal, which may or may not have been reassuring given his first instinct was that it was a brain,¹⁰ and that was not a one-off.¹¹ ¹² Birds’ feet turn up in fried chicken meals way more often than you might think¹³ ¹⁴ ¹⁵ and then there was the chicken’s foot found inside a woman’s roast dinner.¹⁶

The truth is we cannot trust these companies and we do not know what they are selling us, so we really need to keep our wits about us… or perhaps it would just be safer to eat something less likely to contain nipples, beaks, and feet.
