Milk

While many cows in the UK still have access to pasture in the summer, more and more are being kept indoors for longer, and even throughout their lives.

While many cows in the UK still have access to pasture in the summer, more and more are being kept indoors for longer, and even throughout their lives. This is a system known as “zero-grazing”, which is code for ‘“locked in a shed”. All dairy relies on the impregnation of a female (mammals only produce milk for their young) and then the removal of the calf, lamb, or kid to stop them drinking the milk that their mother made for them. Note: the issues cited are obviously also true for butter, cheese, yogurt, cream, and ice cream made from the milk.
